“Community Internet”, also know as “municipal wireless”, refers to the public-service provision of high-speed wireless internet access to citizens within a municipality. In an Emerging Communication Technology course at Western Washington University, students participated in a service-learning project designed to promote municipal wireless within their community. This paper provides a case-study analysis of this innovative service learning project situated at the intersection of technology, knowledge, and society.
