The use of Internet in Andhra Pradesh has been increasingly promoted in order to utilize its services in the areas of education, agriculture, health and administration. The state of Andhra Pradesh is situated in the southern part of India. It is the fourth largest state in India both in terms of geographical area (2,76,814 Kms) and with 7.5 crore population (Census of India 2001). Recently a project called “Rajiv Internet Village” named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, which would make the 22 thousand panchayats of Andhra Pradesh, India’s "most connected" villages. The State Government has allotted an initial amount of 7 billion rupees for this project. Skeptics say that this view of the mission sets unreasonable expectations about what technology can accomplish. But efforts are made to bring the software in the regional languages which enable people with little or no formal education can utilize the Internet services.

It was found that the Internet has influenced the personal relationships, socialization process, education, research and leisure activities of Internet users in the study.Gender differences are observed in content preferences and gratifications derived. It is also observed that personality traits like perception of self, social behavior, emotional attitude have a direct bearing on Internet activities.
